Dr Marion McGarry is a historian and writer. She lectures at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology in Ireland. She has a PhD from Ulster University and a Master's Degree from University of Limerick.
Research interests: Irish history and identity in architecture and material culture. The history of trees in Ireland: tree worship, woodkerne and the ‘timber famine’. Irish vernacular architecture and furniture. The architecture and interiors of the ‘Big House’ in Ireland. The Gothic revival and Norman revival in Irish architecture. Irish customs and traditions. Sligo’s cholera epidemic of 1832 and its influence on Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula (1897). Fitted kitchen design: historic and contemporary. Contemporary Irish furniture.
